CSAC Announces Initial Exhibitions Planned for 20th Anniversary Year

The Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s 20th anniversary exhibition series will pair a wide range of emerging and established New Brunswick artists with community group partnerships and a number of special projects.

The Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s 2025 exhibition season began in January with Finding Wonderland: New Works by Gaetanne’s Lavoie. On display until March 3, this exhibition opened on January 23 with additional exhibitions featuring student art created through the Multicultural Association of Fredericton and a selection of linocut prints made by participants of CSAC’s fall Linocut Printmaking class.

This diverse approach to programming exhibitions in the Centre’s Charlotte Glencross and Penny Galleries will serve as a template for future exhibitions throughout the coming year.

“My goal is to change things up a little bit,” said CSAC Executive Director Matt Carter. “The majority of our exhibitions have featured work by professional artists in the Charlotte Glencross Gallery paired with work by emerging artists in the Penny Gallery. This aspect will stay largely the same in 2025, but with a recent expansion of the Penny Gallery space we can now bolster our model to serve the community in new ways. I’m really excited about it.”

With support received from the McCain Foundation in 2024, the Centre was able to expand its emerging artist gallery with improved lighting, a new hanging rail system and a fresh coat of paint, nearly doubling the available space in the Penny Gallery.

“This additional space has provided us the opportunity to diversify our programming in new ways,” said Carter. “While we will continue to exhibit work by professional and emerging artists, we can also now host work by community groups, our own art class students, and host a variety of special projects. This is all part of our ongoing mission to reimagine our role within the community, develop new friendships and provide increased access to programming.”

This initial announcement details the majority of exhibition programming scheduled for 2025. Additional community exhibitions and special projects will be announced throughout the year.
