Artist/Educator Matt Watkins replaces Sheila Atkinson as president of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s parent organization.
After a lengthy term as president of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s parent organization Fredericton Arts and Learning Incorporated, Sheila Atkinson has voluntarily stepped down. Her decision was made official at a recent meeting of the organization’s board of directors.
“I feel it’s time we welcome new energy into the role of president,” said Atkinson. “I have had the privilege of helping to lead the Charlotte Street Arts Centre over the past several years. In that time, we have successfully navigated several hurdles and have enjoyed a number of successes. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to meet so many gifted artists in varying disciplines. My thanks to all the generous board members, staff and volunteers over these past five years of my presidency.”
Following Atkinson’s official resignation, the board welcomed Matt Watkins as its new president. Watkins is a multidisciplinary artist and arts educator. He is an instructor at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and has maintained a studio at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre for several years. He has been a member of the board of directors since 2021, serving as the chair of the exhibition committee for the past year.
“Sheila has done an incredible job,” said Watkins. “I am thankful she has chosen to remain a member of the board, and I look forward to working with her and our entire team in this new capacity.”
