CSAC welcomes Alina Karmadanova for youth art classes this winter

Creating new and engaging opportunities for youth engagement in the arts is a priority for us here at the Charlotte Street Art Centre. This winter we will be offering classes in watercolour and sketching for children and youth 18 and younger. These classes will be led by painter Alina Karmadanova.

Alina is a painter born in Siberia (Russia). She holds a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Design. From 2018 to 2023 she worked and lived in Shanghai, China. From 2022 to 2024 Alina studied at Falmouth University (UK) online and received her master’s degree in Illustration online. She graduated from New Brunswick College of Craft and Design with an advanced studio practice certificate. She has exhibited her art in galleries in Russia, China, the UK, the USA and Canada over the past 5 years.

In this fun and hands-on watercolor course, students will learn a unique technique that helps them master control over their paints, creating smooth, professional-quality washes without stains. Through guided lessons, children will develop confidence in their painting skills, tackling a variety of subjects of their own choosing. By the end of the course, students will have created their own original artwork while gaining a solid foundation in watercolor that they can apply both in and outside of the classroom. This course encourages creativity, independence, and the development of lifelong artistic skills.

Four week class - March 1, 8, 15, 22.

Saturdays at CSAC (10-12 p.m.)

Registration fee: $120 (includes material fee)

Max. class size: 12

In this dynamic sketching course, students will tackle the challenge of drawing the world around them with accuracy and confidence, without relying on the rules of perspective or anatomy. Through a series of engaging exercises, teens will learn to sketch objects and figures freehand, improving their ability to capture realistic proportions and details without preliminary sketches. By the end of the course, students will see significant improvement in their drawing skills, developing a deeper understanding of how to approach any subject, from everyday objects to the human figure, with a fresh, intuitive perspective.

Four week class - January 27, February 3, 10, 17.

Mondays 6-8 p.m.
