Workshop: An Introduction to Watercolour Painting

Watercolour is a graceful medium, as light emanates from beneath the surface, connecting the painter and viewer to the multiple layers of translucent colours. This course will teach basic techniques specific to watercolour, as well as the fundamental principles that relate to all great design and composition. You will have the opportunity to put these principles and techniques into practice, so they start to become intuitive. This is an introductory course; however you can work to your own skill level if more advanced.

This is a full day workshop running 10-4 p.m. with an hour break for lunch.

Workshop supply kits are available from the instructor for $25.00 (paid on the day of the workshop) and include:

• Watercolour Paper 140lb. cold press, 2

• 2 sheets + 2 sheets Watercolour paper 90lb.

• Colouring card (bakery art)

• Palette: warm and cool versions of red, blue and yellow, plus black and white,

professional level paint : Grumbacher or Windsor Newton, given in class from tubes

• Assorted colours 2 tubes of water colour tube paint

• Brushes: round, flat and angle + foam brush

• Drawing pencil

• White magic eraser

• Mixing palette/plate

• 8”x10” Acid free Matt for a 5”x7” painting

• Foam core board

• roll of painters tape (green) • Instructional notes

If bringing your own supplies, there will be an additional charge of $10.00 (paid on the day of the workshop) for notes, colouring card and a required acid-free Matt.

About the Instructor:

Jane is a designer and painter with a penchant for watercolour. She is well known for her large scale watercolours that grace residential and commercial spaces across the country. Her artwork has been purchased for public and private collections in Canada, the US, and Holland, and she has lectured and conducted workshops around the globe. Jane spent more than thirty years as Head of Design at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, and has acted as a design consultant for several commercial and residential design firms, with her work being featured on HGTV and east Coast Living Magazine. Lately, you will find her art in boutique shops and Galleries throughout New Brunswick.
