THE CHARLOTTE STREET ARTS CENTRE SHOWCASES INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS THROUGH DIGITAL MEDIA!
The newly established Got Video? Gallery is the Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s latest attraction. The gallery, a wall-mounted 42” LCD TV, is housed in the main foyer of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, and is a community resource for arts groups, provided by the Fredericton Arts Alliance through funding received from the City of Fredericton.
Currently on rotation is a series of nine videopoems by Belgian artist, Swoon. Swoon has produced over 60 videopoems, has collaborated with various writers in different languages and has been shown at a number of international festivals, such as the International Literary Film Festival (Brooklyn, NY), Vimfest (Mexico), the Experimental Film and Video Festival (Croatia), the upcoming Poetry Film Festival ZEBRA (Berlin, Germany), and many more.
Following Swoon will be video artist Jean-Michel Rolland from Paris, France. Both a musician and an artist, Jean-Michel Rolland uses video to produce experimental sequences that use utensils and found objects to create visual and musical compositions as one. Jean-Michel has also screened his works at international festivals, such as the West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival, the Festival Internacional de la Imagen (Columbia), the 8th Berlin International Directors Lounge and more. Jean-Michel Rolland’s work will be shown from May 19 – June 22, 2012.
The Artist’s Hand is a Helping Hand
The Charlotte Street Arts Centre is pleased to host the upcoming exhibition, The Way I Look At It by George Strunz, from May 4 – June 10, 2012. The exhibition will feature numerous pastel, acrylic and watercolour paintings that feature natural themes such as landscape, still life and environmental portraits. All works will be for sale as a joint fundraiser for the Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s ArtReach program, which provides free arts-based education to marginalized groups, as well as for the John Howard Society of Fredericton. The Charlotte Street Arts Centre is deeply grateful to George Strunz for his creative efforts to support our vision of opening the doors of creative expression to all.
The opening reception for The Way I Look At It will take place in the Charlotte Glencross Gallery at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, 732 Charlotte Street, on Friday, May 4, from 5-7pm. All are welcome to attend, meet the artist, and enjoy live Latin-inspired music by our house band, Richard Gloade, Esq and beer tastings by our ever-generous sponsors, Picaroons Traditional Ales.
Exhibition Call for New Brunswick Aboriginal Artists!
The Charlotte Street Arts Centre is seeking submissions of craft pieces and artworks created by New Brunswick aboriginal artists to be displayed in our Charlotte Glencross Gallery, in conjunction with the upcoming Aboriginal Artists’ Conference.
This exhibition, opening in June 2012, is named after late elder Gwen Bear. She was given the name Sagatay, which means “the breaking of the dawn”. The purpose of this exhibition is to honour the spirit of Sagatay, as well as to promote NB First Nation artists.
