The Next Folding Theatre Company Presents PISTOLS AND PETTICOATS: Shadows of Sarah Emma Edmonds
February 22, 2012 - February 24, 2012
The Next Folding Theatre Company Presents
PISTOLS AND PETTICOATS: Shadows of Sarah Emma Edmonds
"Pistols and Petticoats: Shadows of Sarah Emma Edmonds" is a theatrical production that follows the many disguised lives of one of the only female Civil War soldiers, Sarah Emma Edmonds. Born in Magaguadavic, NB in 1841, Sarah escaped a rocky upbringing and moved to the States, where, disguised as a male soldier, she became one of the Union’s most successful spies. She rode alongside General McClellan and fought alongside the army for the First and Second Battles of Bull Run. A ‘frank and fearless’ woman, Sarah Emma Edmonds constantly evaded detection through a series of extreme measures. Beggar, Soldier, Escaped Slave - No one knew the woman behind them all. Her story is told from the perspective of six different local storytellers through music, movement, shadows and gunfire. Each writer's world of Sarah Emma Edmond is as drastically different as the characters she embodied. "Pistols and Petticoats" runs February 22nd-24th at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre in the auditorium. Performances begin at 8:00pm each night. Tickets are $10 for general admission, and $5 for Students/Seniors.
Written and Performed by: Emily Bosse, Jean-Michel Cliché, Thomas Fanjoy, Jake Martin, Lisa Anne Ross and Julia Whalen.
