THE CHARLOTTE STREET ARTS CENTRE SHOWCASES INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS THROUGH DIGITAL MEDIA!
The newly established Got Video? Gallery is the Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s latest attraction. The gallery, a wall-mounted 42” LCD TV, is housed in the main foyer of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, and is a community resource for arts groups, provided by the Fredericton Arts Alliance through funding received from the City of Fredericton.
Currently on rotation is a series of nine videopoems by Belgian artist, Swoon. Swoon has produced over 60 videopoems, has collaborated with various writers in different languages and has been shown at a number of international festivals, such as the International Literary Film Festival (Brooklyn, NY), Vimfest (Mexico), the Experimental Film and Video Festival (Croatia), the upcoming Poetry Film Festival ZEBRA (Berlin, Germany), and many more.
Following Swoon will be video artist Jean-Michel Rolland from Paris, France. Both a musician and an artist, Jean-Michel Rolland uses video to produce experimental sequences that use utensils and found objects to create visual and musical compositions as one. Jean-Michel has also screened his works at international festivals, such as the West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival, the Festival Internacional de la Imagen (Columbia), the 8th Berlin International Directors Lounge and more. Jean-Michel Rolland’s work will be shown from May 19 – June 22, 2012.

NATIONAL YOUTH ARTS WEEK events at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, in partnership with Nature NB
Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 1:00pm - 4:00pm
The Charlotte Street Arts Centre joins with Nature New Brunswick in May, to artfully create a wildlife-friendly space, as part of National Youth Arts Week activities across Canada.
Join us in the Charlotte Street Arts Centre Culture Garden, located at the back of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, on Saturday, May 5th from 1-4pm, to learn about common birds of New Brunswick and help biologists build various wildlife friendly structures such as bat houses, bird houses, nest boxes and feeders. These structures will be placed behind the Charlotte Street Arts Center on Saturday, May 26th during our community event, called Planting Community.
The Planting Community event is a chance to get your hands dirty and help Nature NB and The Charlotte Street Arts Center build a wildlife friendly garden, and is a chance for youth to showcase the wildlife structures they've created and installed. Activities include planting bird and butterfly gardens, an art station, nature games and a free BBQ for volunteers. Help us green our community and build on the Culture Garden! Planting Community activities take place from 10am-2pm on Saturday, May 26th. Enjoy live music by our Latin-inspired house band, Richard Gloade and the Esquire Trio, while you dig in. Also, if you haven’t had a chance yet to check out our nature-inspired mural by local graffiti artist Jason Willcox, across the entire back wall of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, now is the time!
Families and youth are welcome to register for both events by contacting Nature NB at YNC@naturenb.ca or calling 459-4209. All activities are free of charge, supported by the New Brunswick Wildlife Trust Fund and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
